In July this year 10 talented women were chosen from 550 applicants to undertake the 3T course, a comprehensive live music training programme delivered over 12 weekends. 3T was designed to provide a broad set of technical skills to Black women who can then join tours assisting across all departments.
Black women are not just under-represented in touring roles, they are almost entirely missing from the picture. This course hoped to begin to correct that imbalance and provide visibility and confidence for Black women; to ensure that women aspiring to these roles see themselves in the workforce.
The technical skills these women have include cable making, building LED walls, tuning RF kit, operating follow spots, DMX addressing, audio patching, reskinning drums, looming, loading and much more. This makes them extremely valuable all round tour techs on shows of any scale.
